Corpus-based Dictionary Creation Software Tools

History

This is the first beta Net-Based Software Tool version of the Dictionarium - Corpus-Based Dictionary Creation Software Tools. Dictionarium was born from my lexicographic practice and needs. The first version was written in the middle of nineties working in MSDOS. Initially was written in Clipper and Turbo Pascal.

Goals

Dictionarium is a set of tools working as auxiliary in dictionaries compiling which has been developed within at the NILC - Núcleo Interinstitucional de Lingüística Computacional of the Universidade de Sao Paulo. The intention behind the present set of programmes is to put at the disposal of the interested user the tools he or she would require in order to process linguistically relevant data, given the chance to the user create and search its own online corpus.

Evidently, the author will still need to do some thing, just as adding the definitions of each meaning giving them your personal touch. Dictionarium intends, however, to give to the author of dictionaries many of the tools that are him/her useful and, in certain cases, indispensable to your lexicographical labor. The first 'mission' or the lexicographer's 'task' will be to add registrations to the database. The short and medium period these registrations will feed the micro and macroestructure of your dictionary. Believe! The first work to be elaborated is a bilingual dictionary Castilian-Portuguese, in whose structure I am working there is a long time. Contributions in Castilian are well comings.

What it Do

It makes wordlists (by alphabetical or frequency order), web concordances, from Corpus Database set up by a user. Also provides very flexible search, selection, sorting criteria and statistics on your inputed text. The Dictionarium Net version must be used for building databases, collocations, wordlists from texts in English, Spanish and Portuguese. The desktop version will be available in several languages such as Swedish, Duth, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and French. The corpus, however must be provided by the users in both versions.
